I've told myself that if I see something in my daily routine that would make a good subject for a painting that I should stop and take photos of it. One day I was driving by a fire station in Atlanta when I saw these four firemen relaxing in front of their truck. I was struck by how cool and interesting they seemed, so I pulled over and asked if I could take some photos of them for a painting. They were amused but agreeable except the gentleman second from the right, who seemed skeptical of me and my purposes with taking photos. He said he'd rather not be in it, but his colleagues coaxed him into staying. I got a business card from one of them and later emailed him a photo of the painting when it was done, and he said they liked it.
