I worked for the US Embassy on a 2-month fellowship in 2014 in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. In my role assisting the RMI government, I was given a large collection of old photos depicting the islands and some of the environmental challenges facing them, including sea level rise from climate change. Many of the photos were of flooding on the islands from king tide events coinciding with storm surges, which were becoming more frequent and devastating to the islands, especially in densely populated Majuro.
