I first became interested in art in my late '40s. I had inherited some art supplies from my late mother Amye Lue Becker, who took up painting late in her life and had a wonderful style. I started experimenting with drawing and painting wildlife, and found it enjoyable and meditative. I've always been a nature lover and it seemed like a way to immerse myself with those creatures and scenes I found interesting or beautiful. I learned a lot from "The Laws Guide to Nature Journaling" by John Muir Laws, and created my own journal of colored pencil and watercolor pencil drawings and paintings of wildlife of the Southeastern US. Here are some of my better watercolor pencil paintings from around 2019. Some were based on my photos but others were from images I found online, although I don't have notes of the sources. Listed below are: Mobile Logperch, Common Whitetail, Turkey Tail, American Alligator, Manatee, Red Salamander, and Northern Dusk Singing Cicada.
